Sustainability Changemakers in Vocational Education and Training
Last year we launched the Raising Awareness Initiative about Sustainability Education in VET (RAISE VET) Erasmus+ project to integrate Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into vocational training. As part of the project, we have designed a three-week module (a virtual week and two face-to-face weeks) for students to learn sustainability skills, in line with our school’s environmental commitment.
On November 4th, the Sustainability Changemakers module will begin in its pilot phase with a group of six students from Munich, Germany, and six from Armeria School. Over the course of two weeks, students will address real challenges such as the school’s energy audit, the study of sustainable solutions for Eibar, and discussions on eco-design and circular economy. Students will also reflect on questions like “How can we save energy?” and “What can we do to make our electronic devices reusable?”
Workshop on Green Skills
The Green Skills Workshop will be a prominent event of the module on November 13, from 12:30 to 14:30, with Jon Ander Sarasua, Tekniker’s Sustainability Manager as the keynote speaker. He will present the main green skills required in the technical professions, and then students, with the help of industry operators and representatives of Tknika, will develop a “Decalogue of Green Skills” to guide good practices for sustainability in future jobs. In addition, students will participate in two actions of the European Climate Pact through an “Eibar Climate Walk”, developed in collaboration with City Council experts, and a photo report. These actions aim to deepen the involvement of students in sustainability, with the aim of becoming agents of change in their communities.
In addition to getting to know the Tekniker Eibar Research Technology Center first hand, students will visit two renewable energy facilities in the Basque Country to enrich their practical learning. First the floating marine platform of Armintza, BIMEP (Biscay Marine Energy Platform), and then the wave power plant of Mutriku. These visits will offer students a unique opportunity to learn about marine renewable energies directly and study their impact by the hand of expert Jon Lekube.
