Raise VET Pilot Module in Ireland

From March 31st to April 4th, eight students from the Basque Country and Germany traveled to Ireland as part of the Raising Awareness Initiative about Sustainability Education in VET (RAISE VET) Erasmus+ project, focusing on sustainability and green skills in vocational education.
This initiative, launched in the 2023-2024 academic year, aims to integrate Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into vocational training. The project helps students develop sustainability-related skills while offering a rich international learning experience.
The students deepened their understanding of the Irish education system and green skills relevant to the construction and engineering sectors. At TU Dublin’s School of Mechanical Engineering, they attended theoretical lessons and practical workshops, gaining experience in key areas such as:
– Green skills in construction and engineering
– Energy conservation and sustainable technologies
– NZEB (Nearly Zero Energy Building) technical considerations
– Basic skills in plumbing, refrigeration, and air conditioning
– Industrial insulation techniques
Additionally, at Coláiste Dún Iascaigh (Tipperary), they explored sustainability from both local and global perspectives. The students tackled various disciplines linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
– English and Communication : Understanding the use of language in real-life contexts
– Social Education : Developing self-awareness, relationships, and societal topics
– Mathematical Applications : Applying precision and reliability in sustainable practices
The project’s pilot module was developed across three partner countries—Basque Country, Germany, and Ireland—and will conclude on May 31st. It has been a successful transnational effort to empower vocational students and promote sustainable practices.
